Sběratel 2024

Letňany, Prague

At the beginning of September, the annual collectors’ fair Sběratel 2024 was traditionally held at the exhibition grounds in Prague Letňany. This important collectors’ event attracts thousands of visitors during its two-day duration each year.

The prestigious Prague Philatelic Club (PPCP) maintained a small stand at the fair, where catalogues from the Biennale 2020 and Biennale 2023 exhibitions were offered for sale together with personalized stamps issued on the occasion of these prestigious exhibitions.

In order to attract the attention of visitors and increase sales of the presented material, Mr. Roman Šorejs prepared a new two-frame exhibit for the fair devoted to Operation Anthropoid — the assassination of Acting Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich in 1942 — as well as to the most important philatelic artifact of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia period, undoubtedly the famous Heydrich souvenir sheet, often referred to as “The Most Expensive Souvenir Sheet in the World.”

Within this exhibit, the souvenir sheet bearing serial number 622 was displayed publicly for the first time in history together with its original envelope carrying the identical serial number. Also exhibited were the commemorative plaques together with their original dispatch envelope, issued — similarly to the souvenir sheet — one year after Heydrich’s death as part of the memorial commemorative events held on that occasion.

The exhibit attracted considerable attention from both philatelic specialists and the general public alike, and thus became one of the most significant events organized by the PPCP club during 2024.
